"The Cookie Basket"

This basket was the beginning . . .
my interest in basketry took off
with help from a new friend. For some
reason I never thought of making a basket
until Kathy Hearn (Johnson) dropped by
my home with a basket of cookies.

The Cookie Basket - this basket started it all!

My first basket fall of 1978

Kathy was one of the first ladies I met
here in Sandpoint. One day at her home
she had the patience to teach me the very basics. Here's my first basket, dating
back to fall of 1978.

Thank you Kathy.

Antler and
Driftwood
Baskets

I make ribbed antler and drifwood handle baskets year round. Sometimes I have a dozen and sometimes just a few made up. My style is pretty similar with each antler or piece of driftwood, but depending on the size and shape of the antler/driftwood the basket will vary a bit. Here's a couple of baskets to get and idea of my work.

Prices range from $55.00 to $175.00+

the Basket Case - Bread Baskets

Bread Baskets

These baskets are made with a clay base
and birch bark woven into the sides of the basket. I press local tree needles and
leaves into the brown clay and add holes around the edge, then glaze the imprints
with a deep green. The basketry is attached to the base. I try not to make them the
same size and shape - but similar.

The small baskets with the open weave
with clay bases in the photo to the left are garlic baskets or what ever you want to
fill it with. Of course we know that a
basket is a container and left unfilled it
will collect 'stuff'.

Bread Baskets prices begin at $42.00

Vases - Basketry and Pottery

I don't have a fun name for this
basket/vase . . . yet!
This vase is relatively a new design.
The pottery is only the base and rim
with basketry connecting the two.
Needless to say - it won't hold water, but
a plasitic cup/container works
great for fresh flowers.
Color and weaving designs vary.

Starting price $65.00

Basket on Wheels

Not a new idea. I thought I was soooo smart for figuring this design, then happen to see in an ad for new flooring with an antique basket in the corner.
Prices vary on design and starting at $225.00

Bike Baskets

These baskets are designed to carry small items
- water bottle, purse, candy of choice, very small dogs, etc.
Bike baskets made with reed will 'give/sag' a bit and
works best on a cruiser bike where the post and the handle line up.
Prices: large - $40.00, medium - $32, small - $20
